Without products you will not have anything to sell in your eBay business. Firstly, of course, you need to decide on your merchandise and how you will sell it.

Will it be as hot as when you buy something to re-sell?
Will you specialize in a certain type of commodity/product?
Will you have an eBay shop?
Will you deal with specific suppliers?
Will you source the goods you sell yourself by surfing the net or sales?

Your supply chain is very important as it can make or break your business. It may be that you will wish to just sell when you get hold of a bargain. However, that will not be a very successful business as it will be muddled and very hit and miss.
In order to be a successful eBay power seller it is important to identify your market and then source your goods. In order to keep costs down when you first start only sell one or two lines. If you're not careful you can get bogged down with too many peripheries

For examples, say you decide to sell shoes you will need to stock:
Many different sizes
Different colours in each size.
Various widths
Several styles.
Loads of Returns - shoes are notoriously bad for fitting.
In the beginning this could be prohibitive so look for the KISS system. Keep It Simple Stupid.

If you decide to source your goods personally then auctions and liquidation sales are excellent provision. You could also negotiate with a wholesaler but the problem with this are the limitations on goods, delivery and payment systems.
The bottom line is entirely your decision. Whatever you decide, start modestly and your business will fly. Overstretch yourself in time and money and you could fail.
Borrow money from pessimists.
They don't expect it back

Learn from a real ebay power seller and stop wasting time with so called guru's that claim to know how to sell on ebay.
